Why I Love William Penn Elementary
If I could describe William Penn Elementary School in one word it would be family. The teachers and staff are like an extended family and genuinely love all their students. I fully entrust them with my children every day and am so thankful for our little gem of a school. I first entered William Penn in spring of 2012 when I attended kindergarten evaluation day with my oldest son, now a 5th grader at William Penn. From that moment I knew we were “home”. My oldest had been diagnosed with ADHD around that same time and was asked to leave his preschool/daycare only months prior due to his behavior, which was in the process of being diagnosed at that time. My husband transitioned from being a full-time employee to being a full-time stay-at-home dad overnight as a result of this change. Needless to say, I was very worried about my son entering kindergarten, however, his teacher was amazing! She worked so hard with him and was dedicated to seeing him succeed and never gave up on him like others had previously done.
The transition to 1st grade was a scary one for me as well as William Penn is an open concept school and I wasn’t sure how that would work with a child with ADHD. I am happy to say it was never an issue for us. The atmosphere at William Penn is one of love and my son was able to thrive in this nurturing environment. What a difference from his preschool years! I now have 2 boys at William Penn and would recommend this school to anyone! The small classes, open concept and fabulous teachers and staff make it one big family. All the teachers get to know the students and share in their education. It’s been such a wonderful experience for our family and I am happy to report that my once troubled child who hid under the table on his first day of kindergarten is thriving as a 5th grader. It will be a sad day in our family when we say goodbye to William Penn when our boys move on to Middle School. I am truly going to miss each and every one of the teachers and staff of William Penn as they’ve grown to become part of our family over the last six years!
