This week is week 2 of our targeted advocacy efforts to get full and fair funding for public schools in this year’s state budget! Like you did last week, please reach out again to Senator Pat Browne and/or Senator Mario Scavello, two pivotal votes – and enlist others to do the same. These senators need to hear from us about how important it is for Harrisburg to adequately and equitably support our public schools – and they certainly noticed all of your calls last week!
I’m calling to share a message with the Senator. (Pause for them to ask a question or say “ok, go ahead.”) I’m calling to ask the Senator to support the full and fair funding of public schools in this year’s state budget. The money is there: state revenues were ahead of projections by $1.5 billion in the last month alone. Schools and students and local taxpayers across the commonwealth need those resources. In lower wealth districts, too many needs go unmet because the current system of state support for public schools is both inadequate and unfair. There’s no excuse: We have the resources to provide students what they need, so please include a $1.25 billion increase in Basic Education Funding and $300 million for Level Up in this budget. Please send $115 million in new Basic Education Funding to Lehigh Valley students and local taxpayers!
